Compassion Revolution comes to Logan Hospital
Co-Creation Collaborative.

An introduction to Co-Creation
Co-creation is a process where we work with people with lived experience of a service to learn together and share power and decision making for a better outcome.

How we are transforming systems of care
Compassion Revolution is working with the Women’s and Children’s Services (W&CS) to improve culture and care.
We’re building a Co-Creation team. This team will be invited to bring their
lived experience, professional experience and creativity to design, test and implement new ways of working and being.
Co-creation is creative, explorative, experimental and truly rewarding. Done well it can make a world of difference to people and place, both here at the W&CS but also potentially by others working in and living-in healthcare scenarios like this, and may even contribute to social and systems change.
Every person on this team will imagine what good culture looks like—for themselves and then as a collective.
Our diversity will build our strength.
The Co-Creation Collaborative
We will be creating a team with professionals (people who work in the service – doctors, midwives, nurses, administrators, allied health workers etc.,) and people with lived experience (women and their families who have lived experience of the birthing journey).

Mary stepped everyone through the ways we agree to work together when we share time with each other.
- We are curious
- We make generous assumptions
- Confidentiality
- One voice, one person at a time
- We slow down for each other
- We speak from our own experience
- We’re building, not selling
- Make space, take space
- We can’t be articulate all the time
3. How we got to be here
Mary and Renea shared the backdrop to how Mary and Compassion Revolution got to be invited to work with Logan Hospital on building beautiful culture.

5. What is co-design
Mary outlined that it’s co-design if people with lived experience and professionals learn, design and decide together.
6. Building a textural map
Angie led the group in an exercise of understanding that every place and space has a sonic and textural map. We explored high desert country, rain forests, cafes and then Logan Hospital. We used textural kits to explore the way that certain textures evoke certain memories and feelings. The group explored the way that some spaces felt more safe than others and some hospital smells and sounds were triggering long after the event. We started to explore our hopes for this service and the ways that we could experience a stronger sense of belonging and safety. A strong theme was isolation and the experience of being in a room alone for hours before or after birthing and wondering if we had been forgotten.
7. Keeping in touch
We agreed that Mary would put all the minutes of meeting on the Compassion Revolution-Logan Hospital web page https://compassionrevolution.care/logan-hospital-maternity/co-creation and send a word doc to Christine. We will stay in touch using emails and when we need to communicate with urgency we will use sms. Mary will post the slides from each meeting onto our website also.
8. Closing round
We chose one word each to close the meeting. The words connected, grateful, acknowledged and validated came up.
