Acknowledgement

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Kaurna people, the traditional custodians whose ancestral lands we gather on. We acknowledge the deep feelings of attachment and relationship of the Kaurna people to country and we respect and value their past, present and ongoing connection to the land and cultural beliefs.

“Tarntanya” is the Kaurna name for the area now known as Adelaide, South Australia. It translates to “place of the male red kangaroo”.

Our commitment to the environment

We’re committed to sustainability from our venue and food choices to reusing signage and décor from our events wherever possible, and will be donating our event flowers to local palliative care services to bring joy beyond the day.

U City is a ‘Green’ Function Centre

U City not only supports the ongoing work of Uniting Communities within South Australia, it is a certified carbon neutral organisation. It helps event organisers to reduce their own carbon emissions by using a low carbon facility that is 6 star Green Star rated.

U City is recognised as one of Australia’s ‘greenest’ buildings by design to date. It is predicted to use 45 per cent less energy and 30 per cent less water than a comparable new and is partly powered by solar panels on our roof. Toilets are low water consumption and all hand towels are composted.

Food facts

When buying your ticket, you are able to select your dietary preferences.

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, nut free and dairy free requirements. Anything beyond these requirements, please contact Compassion Revolution and we’ll discuss how we can provide for you.

Blanco Catering at U City, is committed to sustainability by sourcing local, small-batch produce and minimising food miles. Leftover food is donated to organisations like the Hutt St Centre, and all venues follow a minimal food waste policy.

Organic waste, including coffee grounds, is sent to Jeffries for composting, while milk cartons and non-refundable bottles go to dry waste. Refundable containers are donated to Scouts SA. At U City, dry waste is turned into alternative fuel for Adelaide Brighton Cement, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

More than ever people are looking to engage with brands they believe in. Our promise is to continue working with local suppliers whenever possible, developing menus driven by the freshest seasonal produce and working to miminise waste while providing a premium food and beverage experience.

Around the city

Adelaide is a city of wide boulevards, lush parklands, and big skies—where grand sandstone buildings meet edgy laneways, and fine dining sits comfortably beside food trucks and pop-up bars. The West End is where it all begins: explore the iconic Adelaide Central Market and Chinatown, alive with colour, culture, and global flavours. Stroll to the River Torrens for a scenic walk, or take in a show at the Festival Centre.

For shopping and city buzz, Rundle Mall offers flagship stores and street performers, while Rundle Street in the East End tempts with boutique fashion, alfresco dining, wine bars, and hidden laneways like Ebenezer Place and Vardon Avenue.

Just 20 minutes away by tram is one of Adelaide’s favourite beachside spots. Glenelg is perfect for sunset walks, dolphin cruises, and seaside dining. And no visit is complete without a trip to one of our world-famous wine regions—Barossa, Adelaide Hills, or McLaren Vale—or a tasting at the National Wine Centre right in the city.

For a deeper cultural experience, head to North Terrace—Adelaide’s elegant cultural boulevard. Home to the Art Gallery of South Australia, South Australian Museum, and some of the city’s most beautiful historic buildings, it’s the perfect place to explore art, history, and heritage.

Don’t miss Too Deadly: Ten Years of Tarnanthi—a powerful celebration of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, marking a decade of this groundbreaking exhibition series.

Adelaide is compact, creative, and endlessly welcoming—a city that invites you to slow down and savour.

A commitment to art at U City

Art

Showcasing some of SA’s most talented artists, the U City Arts Project was a collaboration between Uniting Communities and Guildhouse to commission art works for the new U City building.

Public art is an important way of communicating the stories that matter most to the community, expressing our identity and shared values, as well as building meaning and belonging. Art contributes significantly to South Australia’s cultural life as part of a dynamic creative environment that enriches the public realm, enhances wellbeing and strengthens connections.
