BIOGRAPHY

Ruby Allegra (They/Them) is a hot, genderless, autistic cripple who writes and makes art from their bed on unceded Wurundjeri land.

Ruby is a multidisciplinary artist, model, and writer who draws on their lived experience to inform their arts practice and works with accessibility as an art form. They integrate access and inclusion into everything they do, collaborating with Deaf and disabled artists to increase the accessibility of their art.

Ruby creates disabled body movement and live performance as a counter for internalised ableism and fatphobia, they use makeup as trans adornment and gender expression and they proudly a part of creating queercripple built spaces.

Holding a bachelor in speech pathology, Ruby combines their lived and learnt experience as both a patient and clinician to inform others about body autonomy, medical trauma and ableism within healthcare institutions.

Ruby is passionate about intersectionality as a practice, and utilising their platform and privilege to encourage and continue conversations about transphobia, white supremacy and ableism.

Ruby’s debut solo exhibition, ‘From My Room’, which has transformed Newmarch Gallery into a rainbow of intimate depictions of disabled life, is currently showing and you can find more of their work on Instagram @rvbyallegra and @rvbytheartist.
