Growing an allegiance
with ourselves
In this one day workshop you will spend time in reflection and in conversation. Mary will offer a series of prompts and questions and will introduce some new concepts for thinking about our relationship with ourselves. You can expect to make new friends, enjoy laughter and encounter yourself in a new way.
Mary will incorporate writing, listening and reflection. Expect to encounter possibility and generosity.
Right now many of us are caught in a series of polarities:
Show up big — vs — Take care of myself
Be present to a world on fire — vs — Protect myself
This is a workshop for anyone who has ever wanted to go deeper in their understanding of the personal politics of compassion in a space that feels safe enough to hold ambiguity.
This is a day for anyone who wants to make real change.

‘Solidarity Workers’
Participants in this workshop will be invited to join an online group that will follow Mary throughout her residency at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Centre for the month of February. You will be a part of Mary’s development of A Global Toolkit for Self Compassion. Mary will be posting photos and ideas in progress and offering this group a series of questions to reflect on.
This is a unique and deeply personal invitation to form a small group that will serve as a unit of transformation and the container for the experience of belonging.
“If you’re like me, you will have moments when you feel certain that there are more creative ways to approach joy, fear, conflict and mistakes. You might be wondering how you can be more present for yourself and others. Many of the ideas I’m going to share I have developed over the last 6 months in preparation for the work I will be doing while on residency in Bellagio. I don’t normally invite people ‘behind the curtain’ but I have a strong sense that there are others who would like to spend some time learning and to form a container of belonging with me. In some ways this is an invitation to form the first team of ‘solidarity workers’.”

Mary Freer
Founder and CEO
Mary has contributed to Australia’s healthcare system reform in a variety of executive and leadership roles over the last 25 years. She has worked closely with health improvement leaders in many countries across the world to bring about global improvements to our health and social care systems.
Mary has held positions with national government and NFP health care and social welfare services, including women’s and community health services, healthdirect Australia, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in South Australia, Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation and Health Workforce Australia.
In 2016 Mary was awarded a Westpac Bicentennial Foundation Social Change Fellowship. This enabled Mary to travel throughout Europe and the US meeting with leaders who are committed to creating a more compassionate healthcare system. From this Compassion Revolution was born.
Mary has been the Executive Producer of five international Compassion Revolution Conferences and has built deep connections with compassion practitioners all over the world.
In 2021 Mary published her book Compassion Revolution: *Start Now; *Use What You Have *Keep Going.
Mary has been awarded a Rockefeller Foundation — Bellagio Centre Residency commencing in February 2025 to support her to design a Global Toolkit for Self Compassion.
